05.04 Elements of a Good Interview
Interview #1: 17 year old female.
1. What is your occupation? I am a part time server at Steak n Shake, and a full time High School student.
2. Do you have any children? No, I do not have any kids!
3. Do you feel the crime is related to economy? I feel like society is always trying to find a way to make excuses for the youth. I think that times have just changed and it's not as much discipline in our youth.
4. Do you think it's due to lack of a positive role model? I believe that sometimes that may be the case, But there are thousands of kids all over the world who grow up without positive role models and they don't result to crime/violence...you know?
5. Is it possible that negative behavior can be due to a teens surroundings? When I was younger my mother always used to say to me "If you sleep with a dog, you'll wake up with fleas!" I think that holds some truth to it. If all you know is a crime ridden lifestyle, then that becomes very easy to imitate; But still...it can be overcame.
6. Do you believe that teen death is a rising problem in Florida? The number of teens dying in Florida is crazy. Its also very scary. You never know if when you tell your good friend bye if that's a final farewell or not...It's definitely a problem. A BIG one.
7. Are you afraid for teens and the future generations.? Somewhat. It seems as though times are getting worse. I thought maybe they'd progress but it seems like we're all growing up so fast now.
8. Do you believe that it will get worse from here? I believe that things always get worse before better.
9. Do you think that more crimes are committed by males? I think more males get caught! Females are just better at covering things up because we think it through. Guys tend to react off of their adrenaline way more which then leads to them being caught easier.
10. What do you think could be done to solve/help reduce teenage crime? The punishments have to become more steep/crucial. Society has to stop babying the youth. Big boy crimes deserve big Boy time!
Interview #2: 29 year old Male.
1. What is your occupation? I work in packaging and exporting.
2. Do you have any children? Yes, 2.
3. Do you think this problem is related to peer pressure? I feel like in today's world a lot of kids all want to fit in. They all want to follow behind these new rappers, they all want to be the next "big star," it's all out of peer pressure to me.
4. Do you think that by bringing special attention to teen crime will be considered "overreacting?" No not at all. I think that is exactly what should be done. It's seriously getting out of hand and if we plan to cut it down or stop it completely we have to get it in the public eye because just a few people wont be enough.
5. Do you believe that if we punished teens harder it would make a difference in the crime? Oh yes, Definitely. We don't nearly punish them the amount we should.
6. Do you think that teenage crime is race specific? I think that teenage crime is exploited way more in the African American community, but I don't believe it's race specific.
7. Are you afraid for your child? To an extent yes. Bad things happen regardless though. It's just always in the back of my head when my son or daughter go to school that something crazy could happen to them.
8. What steps do you think can be take to prevent this from happening again? Like I stated before, We have to get it out and punish the youth harder.
9. At the end of the day what would you like to see accomplished? I would ultimately hope for the youth to be safe and carefree again. I want it to all die down so that future generations can have that innocence again.
10. 10 years from now what are you expecting from our youth? I'm expecting them to all be more mature and appreciate how laid back America is and for them to accept all they've been given. I think they should be way more grateful.

"06.00 Reporter's Notebook."
A journalist that I admire would have to be Nina Parker. Nina started her journey as an entertainment news correspondent for the popular celebrity gossip show TMZ. As one of the only African American reporters on the show I quickly grew to love her. In just 4 short months of working as a writer for the show Nina quickly grew to positions such as manager and producer of the company website. For 8 years now Ms. Parker has gained a plethora of experience since she first started. As her career has progressed she's met and interviewed many of todays biggest stars. I also believe that Nina has learned that being consistent and working hard will always get you to your goals.
These days you can catch Nina Parker on the prime time television show "OMG!Insider." Having this new job isn't that much different from the position she held on TMZ; However, the show OMG!Insider has a larger following and better accreditation. Since receiving the offer in 2011 to be a reporter for the entertainment show Nina's career has sky rocketed very quickly. I believe this to be a very high point in her career, but not the highest. I soon see Parker owning her own entertainment news company. Being Nina Parker is probably such an amazing feeling. Growing up in Chicago and making it to L.A on your own to chase your dreams takes big guts! To be in the same position as Nina takes a lot of dedication and thick skin. After years and years of trying Parker is finally reaching what she's climbed and strived for all her life. She is honest proof that faith and fate go hand in hand.

"05.02 Source Materials: Research."
For my report I plan to consult 3 different people:
1. Orlando Police Department officer
2. Teen Parent
3. School Teacher
After I get the opinions of those three people on the subject I plan to interview an officer and a teen student. If either of those sources fail I plan to interview a teen parent and a school teacher.
I expect the Officer to be a great source of primary and credible information. I believe this because of his occupation. I'm almost positive that the officer will have great insight of the teenage crime in Orlando.
The teen parent will help me to get the opinion of someone who this could hit close to home with. The parent may throw in their opinions of why they think the crime is becoming so prevalent, but I'll be able to easily tell the difference between what they know to be fact or truth. I believe that interviewing the teenager themself is very important. Often times teens know more information about other teens than any one else since after all, they are a teenager. I plan to conduct the interviews with everyone in public. I think that way it'll be more personal and truthful.

"05.01 Before You Write."
I plan to cover the topic of the rapid increase of teen deaths in Florida. For this topic my audience will be other teens throughout the states and parents of teens. This should be featured in television and radio seeing as though about 93% of people in the US ages 12+ listen to the radio weekly. (http://www.earnnewcustomers.com.) I would be able to interview other teens in the state and get their opinions, I will also be able to interview parents, teachers, and police officers. After my interviews have been conducted I could gather information from the interviews, and from research of statistics online for the state of Florida. One way to remain impartial to this subject is to not put any of my opinions or feelings into the report. I would have to be sure not to insinuate what I may think the high rise in teen deaths are being caused by.

05.00 Reporter's Notebook
Writing is basically everything to me. The ability to write down my dreams, thoughts, and feelings is something that genuinely makes me happy. Whenever there's something going on in my life that I am unable to speak about or put into words for a conversation writing is always there. Writing is one of the most influential works of art in the world.Just think about how many poems and books have been translated into so many different languages. Writing gives you the chance to evoke emotions and thoughts into people that they didn't even know were there. You can go so far in depth with your writing that you even evoke emotions within yourself that you didn't know was there.
Because of the way I feel about writing and how closely tied to emotions I believe it to be, I don't think it is possible to completely write impartially. Although there are many credible news sources where you can get true and honest information, you can always tell a reporters true feelings and tone in their writing by their word choice, and facial expressions (if it's television reporting.) I feel this way because the human body and it's emotions are so powerful and the heart/mind wants and feels how it wants to, there's no hiding it no matter how hard you try.
